Physical Education
“Our learners will understand that life is not all about winning a race, but to take part, giving it your best, and not give up when the challenge seems too great.”
– Mr Buckley, St. John’s PE lead
At St John’s Primary School, we aim to offer a balance of individual and group-based activities, including; co-operative, collaborative and competitive situations to cater for the preferences, strengths and needs of every pupil, assisting with the development of physical, emotional and all-round good health.
We intend to deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all children to succeed in physical education and in developing life skills. We want to teach children life skills, such as swimming, to help keep each individual safe. We aim to develop understanding the need for fairness and to embed life-long values, teaching an individual how to respond appropriately and sympathetically towards others, irrespective of their age, gender, cultural or ethnic background.
Our curriculum aims to improve the wellbeing and fitness of all children at St John’s, not only through the sporting skills taught, but through underpinning the values and disciplines PE promotes.
Pupils are encouraged to appreciate the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle, and begin to understand those factors that affect health and fitness, which links closely to our PHSE, SMSC and our Health & Well-being sessions.
We have been awarded the Bronze Award for the School Games Mark for 2023-2024.
We work closely with Time4Sport for staff training and pupil coaching.
As a school we often use the Change for Life materials. Change for Life materials can be used to help you stay healthy as a family. Click the link below to learn more about food facts, activities and a range of recipes:
